With National Signing Day approaching, the South Carolina Gamecocks are still looking to fill some spots within its 2012 class. One name that is emerging late is Chris Moodyof McDonough, GA. Not to come in and be a dual-threat quarterback but to be a defensive back.
Here is some more info….
Moody is scheduled to visit USC January 28th. Moody has already visited Memphis. He is scheduled for official visits to Central Florida on January 13th and Vanderbilt on January 20th. Moody’s offers list includes the likes of: Virginia Tech, South Florida, Central Florida, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Indiana, Purdue and Georgia Tech.
Moody is being recruited as both a quarterback and an athlete by schools. He runs the spread and the zone read as a quarterback and is a free safety on defense in high school.
The Gamecocks want him to play defensive back at South Carolina. Keep in mind USC has lost two members of its secondary with the decisions of Corey Addison and Martay Mattox to transfer. Yes, USC landed Chaz Elder and Jordan Diggs recently but one more member of the secondary would ensure depth going forward within that unit. The USC coaching staff had hoped to land Elijah Shumate to fill the void but he went with Notre Dame so USC still hopes to land at least one more warm body in the Class of 2012 to play in the secondary in the future.
Moody (6-1, 190-pound) is ranked No. 863 in the country by 247Sports and given 3-stars. Rivals.com also lists him as a 3-star recruit as does Scout.com.
The question is does he want to be a college quarterback or a defensive back? If he goes with the latter choice then you could see him in the garnet and black.
