Is South Carolina Football “Kicker U?”

Should the South Carolina football program be dubbed “Kicker U?”

Some around college football talk about how USC has produced defensive backs for the NFL for a number of years or even how many defensive players are in the NFL now. Or the wide outs that are now catching passes for NFL quarterbacks. The football program at USC has certainly been blessed by great talent that has helped get the program where it is today but what about the kickers that now earn a NFL paycheck…..before you laugh, look at the facts….

Just a few days ago, Adam Yates signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He finished his South Carolina football career last season.

Before Yates, there was Spencer Lanning. He is now a punter for the Cleveland Browns but played both punter and kicker at USC.

And who can forget “Mr. Irrelevant” – Ryan Succop. He is the kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs and started this tradition of having “kicking talent” from USC make it to the NFL.

So while USC is known for their solid defensive players over the years or explosive offensive talent to make the jump to the NFL, what about the guys that use their feet? Is South Carolina now a pipeline for kickers to the NFL? Sure does look like it. No pressure on the current Gamecock kickers and punters to continue the new tradition but…..USC is “Kicker U,” right?
