Gamecocks Football Recruiting: Maybe Give Imani Cross a Call?

One thing is certain about South Carolina football, the running back stable with the likes of Marcus Lattimore, Brandon Wilds and Shon Carson is well-positioned for future successes.  But in the world of recruiting you are always reloading and that is exactly what USC has to do in the upcoming 2012 class.

Currently, they have a pledge from Kendric Salley but would like to add one more to the mix for a secure future.  USC is working to bring in running back Mike Davis but there is quite the battle brewing for his services so why not give Imani Cross a call?

Could prove wise as landing Davis is not a sure thing until the ink is dry and yes it is looking good but the Vols and Clemson are after Davis just as hard as USC. So shouldn’t South Carolina play it safe by reaching out to see if Imani Cross wants to wear the garnet and black?

Cross, 6-foot-1, 220-pounds, is out of North Hall High School in Georgia and was Tennessee’s first commitment for its 2012 recruiting class, picking the Vols among 15 early offers, which included South Carolina. Cross is ranked as the No. 19 RB in the nation by ESPN.  But due to former Gamecock running backs coach Jay Graham joining the Vols staff, they have indicated to Cross they are not looking to sign him.

Cross rushed for 1,700 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior at North Hall, averaging more than 10 yards per carry. He has been timed at 4.53 in the 40-yard dash, rushed for 1,417 yards and 17 touchdowns as a sophomore, was limited as a junior due to an Achillies’ tendon injury but still rushed for 600 yards and averaged over 9 yards per carry.

Cross has set up official visits with Nebraska on Jan. 20 and East Carolina on Jan. 13. Cross may also take recruiting trips to Vanderbilt and Virginia.  He has indicated that he is listening the most to three schools currently – UVa, ECU and Vandy.

Eh…South Carolina, maybe give him a call and see if he has interest.  Not saying USC has not as hopefully they are smarter than that, I mean just check out his highlight film….
