Gamecocks Recruiting Nuggets: 06Apr11

This South Carolina Gamecocks recruiting nugget is written to bring attention to USC men’s hoops pursuit to get some basketball players on the squad for 2011-2012.  We mentioned Anthony Hickey of Hopkinsville, KY recently in this blog posting earlier in the week.  Well, two additional targets have surfaced that Horn is showing interest in of late:

Kevin Ware and Chris Colvin….let’s shine the spotlight….

Former Tennessee Vols signee Kevin Ware of Conyers, GA is a four star rated recruit.  Seems, after the Bruce Pearl exit, he was granted a release from his letter of intent and now has interest in USC.  Also on that list is the likes of UCLA, Louisville, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Central Florida, Georgetown and Virginia.  So it will be tough to land the young man but the opportunity of playing time right off the bat can be impactful in recruiting.  Ware could still end up a signee but he is now exploring his options.  This kid is ranked the #14 SG in the nation and is one of the top 250 basketball recruits.

USC has offered PG Chris Colvin of Palm Beach JC, FL recently as the need for a point guard could exist not knowing fully how the Bruce Ellington football idea could end.  Colvin signed with Iowa State in 2009 but things did not go well there so he took his game to Palm Beach.  He currently has offers from the likes of USC, Miami, Providence, and WVU.  He was the 19th best SG in 2009, 77 overall according to ESPN.

So what when wrong at Iowa State? Well…seems he and the coach did not get along after Colvin left a team meeting on 1/6/10.  After that the relationship was never the same and Colvin did not see playing time.  So the bags were packed for Palm Beach and now he is in search of a new chance.  Can USC be that for him?

Colvin has set four of his official visits. He has been to Arizona State, will go to Providence April 15th, West Virginia April 22nd and Miami on a date to be determined. His last visit likely will be either Pittsburgh or USC.  Feel Pitt is out as Gary Browne gave the pledge to sign recently.

LOHD spin
-Not sure about Ware as we have Leonard signed and will play the SG role.  Could Ware be a SF type wing player?  Surely right.  It will take a lot to land him and not sure that mountain can be moved.
-Colvin could work but with questions on attitude and grades … Does Horn want this?

Here is a highlight video of Kevin Ware –

Here is a video of Chris Colvin –

So if you had one scholly to give, which would it be or should I say…which one out of these two do you want?
