Former Gamecock Star BJ McKie Heads to Argentina

The Former South Carolina Gamecocks basketball star BJ McKie has signed a contract with Argentinean team Gimnasia y Esgrima Comodoro Rivadavia.

McKie started the season in Israel with Hapoel Afula that left late in January averaging 13.1ppg.  BJ is quite the international traveler and I am sure has a nice photo album showing all his journeys to go with a ton of frequent flyer points.

This will be his 13th team that he has laced up the sneakers for in his 11 year professional basketball career since leaving Columbia, SC.  During his career, McKie has stayed with the same team for two consecutive seasons just once – in ’05 and ’06 with Germany’s TBB Trier.  He has gone from playing for BCM Gravelines in France, to Keravnos in Cyprus, then to Avitos Giessen and TBB Trier in Germany and then a stop in Italy playing for Zarotti Imola, Pepsi Caserta and Nuova Pallacanestro Pavia.  Most recently he was ballin’ for Maccabi Haifa Heat and Hapoel Afula in Israel.

His new team plays in the Liga Nacional de Básquetbol (LNB), which is the top league in Argentina.

We here at LOHD hope he gets lucky in Argentina in a different way than the way SC’s Governor did.
