Orlando Early to Join Gamecocks Basketball Staff

Louisiana-Monroe coach Orlando Early has resigned to join Darrin Horn’s staff as an assistant at the University of South Carolina.

The fifth-year head coach met with his team Wednesday night at 7 p.m. to announce his plans to take over as an assistant at USC according to The News-Star.

Orlando Early, 42, was 60-92 in five seasons with the Warhawks.

Before arriving in Monroe, Early spent the previous four years as an assistant at Alabama under Mark Gottfried. Before that, he coached at Charlotte, Western Carolina and Gardner-Webb.

Rumored reason for leaving was since the 2007-2008 season the team has limped along and the “writing was on the wall” as he began to lose support at UL-M.

You may recall this name connected to USC as Early was interviewed two years ago when Horn was putting together staff as he begun his tenure at Carolina.  Early elected to stay at La.-Monroe then.

Unclear is who is he replacing on the Horn staff?  Is Berry, Boynton or Bunton leaving and for what reason?  For that reason, it is hard for me to understand this hire and if it is good or not until more details are gathered.

Follow this story as it develops today and later we will gauge its impact…
