Gamecocks Golf Team Suffers Meltdown with a 9

It is rare that we here at LOHD write about golf but we had to point out one of the oddest things to occur to the USC Gamecocks Men’s Golf team over the weekend.  On the last hole of the day, a par 3 causes a meltdown by one of the best golfers on the team leads to a missed trip to the NCAA Championships.

Picture it – Last hole.  Par three.  USC golfer Wesley Bryan with a six iron in his hand.  Scorecard reads 62 through 17.  Double-bogey or better and the Gamecocks finish in top 5 of the NCAA East Regional.  Odds look good right?

Epic golf meldown leads to a 9 to be scored on the par 3 by Bryan.  Yes a 9.

I can not begin to think what Bryan is feeling today but we understand.  We too have shot a 9 on a par 3.  It happens.  The Gamecock curse happens in golf too it seems.

Keep your chin up Wesley the blame does not rest with you.  It is a team sport.  You are still a great golfer and I am sure you will bounce back stronger.  We are proud of the team for a good run this season.  Got a great coach in McDonald and I am sure this will make his fire to win stronger and the golf program at Carolina better in the future
