College baseball: Regionals at its best

With only one super regional already set, TCU vs Texas, there is still a lot of baseball to be played today.  For most gamecock fans, we will be watching the Coastal Carolina vs. C of C game today in Myrtle Beach, but lets take a closer look at some of the other games.
Alabama vs. GT:
Georgia Tech is the 8th national, and would be the host site if they won today.  Alabama is playing its best baseball after making it to the SEC tournament championship as a 7 seed last weekend in Hoover.  This should be a great game, and one that will come down to the wire.  Both teams are capable of scoring a lot of runs, as we have seen all season long.  I look for Bama to come out on top in this game.
Clemson vs. Auburn:  Clemson’s baseball team  is about as predictable as a volcano these days.  One minute they are a top 10 team in the country, the next they might not make the tournament.   We do know one thing for sure in this series, Auburn can flat out hit the ball.  Leading the SEC in pretty much every offensive category this season.   Whether or not Auburn has the pitching will be the key factor.  We also know for sure a Tiger will win this game.   I see Auburn pulling it out, and setting up for a interesting super regional between Bama and Auburn.
St. John’s vs. UVA:  St. John’s is the only #3 seed left in the tournament, and after beating Ole Miss and UVA yesterday, I am sure they are feeling pretty good right now.  I don’t see them knocking off UVA again.  UVA has the pitching and the hitting to win today’s elimination show down in Charlottesville.
Miami vs. Texas AM:  This ACC vs Big 12 match up could turn out to be a good one.  I give the edge to Miami as they are playing at home, but Texas A&M is playing good baseball coming off of the Big 12 Tournament Championship.  I am feeling the upset today in Coral Gable, as Texas A&M wins a close one.
Arkansas vs. Washington State:  Another SEC school battling to make the super regionals.  Arkansas should have the advantage playing at home, but we all now how up and down Arkansas has been this season.  If the middle of the Hog’s line up can come alive, look for Arkansas to move on.
Minnesota vs. Cal State Fullerton:  Cal State Fullerton has been a staple in the College World Series the last decade, and you would think should defeat the likes of a Big 10 team with ease.  Well that doesn’t seem to be the case as the Golden Gofers are playing good baseball.  Winning the Big 10 this year, Minnesota is looking to make a name for themselves in the tournament.  In the end I see the Titans winning, but I would not be shocked if Minnesota pulls it out.
Louisville vs. Vandy:  Two teams that know each other and don’t really like each other.  This should be a hard fought game with a lot of late drama.  Earlier in the year these two teams played a 17 inning affair that ended with neither team shaking hands and upset coaches.  It would be nice for another SEC team to move on, but Louisville plays well at home.  I have a feeling Louisville pull this one out in the end.
If you are a college baseball fan, this is the best time of the year.  The sounds of ‘ping’ will be upon Omaha all to soon.
