Some Gamecocks sports related news today from several different directions.
First, USC Gamecocks Baseball pitchers Parker Bangs and Jordan Propst have also agreed to terms and will forfeit their final year of eligibility with South Carolina. Both are doing what Whit did and signing with the Kansas City Royals. Both are not real surprises to say as most felt they were going to go the pro route because their playing time at USC had been greatly reduced.
Second, University of South Carolina offensive guard Terrence Campbell has been granted a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA. This is good news for the “old man” and good news for the OL. Hope he stays in good health this year and can contribute.
Third, USC Football player Jarrett Burns, a reserve DB/SS, has left the team. No reason yet why but I am sure it has to deal with him not seeing time on the field in the future. The USC secondary is solid and young. Hard for him to break in for ‘PT.”
Fourth, rumors are already out there about UGa being interested in current USC AD Eric Hyman (article here from AJC) and I have even heard talk of USC baseball coach Ray Tanner. I say ‘BS” to both. Well, actually I say “please god no.” Mr. Hyman has done a excellent job raising USC to a new level within the SEC, while making some money for USC and getting new facilities. Ray Tanner – do I even have to give a reason why he needs to stay put at Carolina?
