South Carolina pulled away late in the second half to defeat Kentucky Wesleyan 71-58 in an exhibition game Thursday night at Colonial Life Arena. I know we’re late telling you that but hopefully you know it by now. It is hard for us to adjust to keeping up with college football talk and basketball talk at the same time. We are male and you know multi-tasking is hard for us.
We do want to point out that eventhough it was KW, it was a solid start for Horn’s young team.
Positives
- Carolina forced the Panthers into 19 turnovers, which translated into 23 Gamecock points.
- Ellington finished 9-of-19 from the field with 23 points.
- Muldrow finished the night with 14 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
- Lakeem Jackson had 16 points, seven rebounds and five steals
Great to see the young team “meshing” so early and spreading the ball around in a team effort.
Negatives
- USC was out-rebounded 53-41
- K-dub did a good job converting 19 second-chance points out of those rebounds
- FG % needs to improve but it is the first game and their is rust there
Those negatives have to be improved upon going forward especially the rebounding part. It is the SEC. It boils down to boxing out.
The Gamecocks open the 2010-11 regular season on Friday, Nov. 12, with a home contest against Elon. The contest is set for a 9 p.m. tip and will be televised by Fox Sports.
