Gamecocks Men’s Soccer Wins Conference USA Championship

The South Carolina Gamecocks Men’s Soccer team won the Conference USA Championship today in the 107th minute off a Stephen Morrissey penalty kick.  The goal was in the second overtime period and lifted Carolina to a 1-0 victory over Tulsa at the C-USA Men’s Soccer Championship at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Memphis.

The Gamecocks had 19 shots compared to 11 by Tulsa.  But it was the one late that counts the most.

The Gamecocks fought their way into the Championship game by beating UAB and the number one seeded SMU.

Congrats to Coach Berson and the entire Gamecocks soccer team.  Due to this win, the Gamecocks (12-6-2) will receive an automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Tournament.  Seeding to be made public on Monday.

What a great weekend for South Carolina sports as they won the SEC East in football yesterday and the soccer crown today.
