By now you know the South Carolina Gamecocks lost badly to the Boston College Eagles in Columbia over the weekend by the score of 85-70. Don’t let the 15 point margin fool you as the Gamecocks never really had a shot due to poor inside play and lights out shooting from the Eagles.
The Eagles shot 51%, but their defense was the big factor, limiting the Gamecocks to 38%. Boston College came down with many more defensive rebounds, 33 to 19, and that created more scoring opportunities. In a simple way of putting it…USC flat out got outplayed.
Let’s provide some more insight on this game…
Positive Aspects –
–USC set a season high in the steal category with 11.
–USC set a season low for turnovers.
–Bruce Ellington led the Gamecocks with 21 points. Ramon Galloway added 15 points off the bench.
–Cooke had 13 points and 7 rebounds. To me that is reason enough for more playing time.
Negative Aspects –
–Sam Muldrow…ZERO points and ONE rebound. That right there is one of the main reasons USC could not hang with the Eagles. Along with poor play by Muldrow, Harris and Jefferson did not wow anyone as they had 4 points between them. Big Sam HAS to play better each and every night. As a Senior, he must step up.
–The loss also ends USC’s undefeated streak at home in 2010.
The SC Gamecocks are now 8-4 for the season. USC against the RPI Top 50 teams has a record of 0-3 and have now lost 3 out of their last 5 games (Furman, Ohio State and now BC).
Next Game – The Gamecocks get a shot at the South Carolina State Bulldogs at home on January 4th.
