The No. 4 Gamecocks (8-0) got behind because the No. 7 Tigers (6-2) struck for all their runs in the second. However, it was all Clemson could muster, much like in the CWS. The Gamecocks got down to business after that as they were lead by big swings from Brady Thomas, Christian Walker and Scott Wingo. Each of those players tallied two-run homers that aided the Gamecocks to a 6-3 win versus Clemson.
Starting Pitcher Michael Roth was stellar. He allowed three runs, all unearned, on seven hits with six strikeouts and three walks in seven innings pitched. Then Taylor, Harper and Roth sealed the win in relief.
I thought this quote was interesting…
“We weren’t trying to bring Omaha into this game,” Tiger designated hitter Phil Pohl said. “It’s a new season, a new series so we started fresh.”
However, in the end, it was the same result: a USC end-game celebration. Seems USC had a different outlook on the game and that is to continue what USC has become good at…beat the rival.
Carolina has dominated this series in recent years, winning 13 of its last 18 games against Clemson in baseball.
