The University of South Carolina men’s basketball team lost to the University of Mississippi Rebels today in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament by the score of 66-55. This loss concludes the Gamecocks season as they finished the 2010-2011 season with a 14-16 record. USC was 4-13 against the RPI Top 100 in this season. This season was full of ups and downs and it seems the ride has come to a end.
We will write more about this season later on but here is a quick recap of the game…
This game was like most, USC started out slow, mounted a late rally but came up short. Reason for the loss, as normal, is poor shot selection. South Carolina shot 20-of-67 (30 percent) from the field and 8-30 from three ball land. Again, living and dying from three ball land. Again the Gamecocks suffered due to their reliance on the low percentage shot. Overall it was a hard fought game by Carolina. Ramon Galloway led the Gamecocks with 17 points and Sam Muldrow had 12 points to end his career in the “garnet & black.”
The Gamecocks trailed 30-26 at the half but a 11-1 run by the Rebels to open the second half did not help USC’s chances. That rally was too much to overcome as the hole was too deep. Again much of the same in almost all of USC’s losses.
Coach Horn has work to-do now as the new season has already started and expectations have increased. 14-16 should be the low point and now it is time to climb towards the top of the SEC. This is my expectation.
