After an undefeated week, South Carolina stayed the same in the polls. Such is the life of a Top 5 team, there really isn’t any room to move up. The only exception this week, like last week is the Coaches’ Poll. They were behind the times last week when South Carolina beat Florida and didn’t move ahead of them. They’ve corrected their error, and all the polls are in agreement that South Carolina is the 3rd best team in the nation. Here are the specifics of each poll.
Poll | This week | Previous |
Baseball America | 3 | 3 |
Collegiate Baseball | 3 | 3 |
Perfect Game | 3 | 3 |
USA Today Coaches’ | 3 | 4 |
The Gamecocks are third in the nation, and they are at least that good in the SEC East. The premier division in college baseball has a tight pennant race going that probably won’t be decided until the last weeks of the season. Here are the standings:
W | L | |
South Carolina | 7 | 2 |
Florida | 7 | 2 |
Vanderbilt | 7 | 2 |
Georgia | 6 | 3 |
Kentucky | 2 | 7 |
Tennessee | 2 | 7 |
Everybody knew Florida, Vanderbilt and South Carolina were going to be contenders. Look at Georgia there at 6-3. That series win against the Bulldogs is looking better now, and I bet it will continue to improve as the season goes on.
