It is our desire on this Gamecocks blog to keep you up-to-speed on recruiting news of interest. We can not compete with recruiting outlets like Rivals and Scout, but we can provide just a general fan’s perspective on some South Carolina recruiting efforts being done by our beloved Gamecocks. So we introduce to you Gamecock Recruiting Nuggets.
The intent is to offer “bit size” pieces of info (aka nuggets) on some prospects that the USC sports programs are pursuing, so we will try to cover basketball and football with a occasional baseball spotlight. We will be short to the point and give our spin. Hope you enjoy our nuggets…
We will start by bringing to light Kevin Rainey, who is close to making his college choice known….
This tight end from Yulee, FL has offeres from the likes of UGa, South Carolina, Miami, Southern Cal, Florida, Florida State, South Florida, Alabama,Texas Tech and UCLA.just by that he is a kid with loads of upside. Seems he is a big USC lean but Miami and UGa are making a push. It is rumored that his decision could be any day but certainly in the next month.
He is listed on the Rivals Top 250 players for 2012. He could be a great TE for USC or even player WR as he could be a “big target” that presents the mis-match that USC has come to love. USC could use him at either spot but with Alshon leaving after the 2011 season (highly likely), he could feel a void in the WR corps. Lord knows Connor Shaw will need targets in the future and Rainey could be a big body that could be a difference maker for the offense. Thought is he chooses USC but watch out for UGa’s push late.
