Two names to update you, Jarvis Giles and Brandon Golson. Giles is a former USC Gamecocks runningback and Golson was a former Gamecock football recruit.
In September of 2010, Jarvis Giles decided to leave of the South Carolina football program, ultimately landing at Louisville. Reason for leaving, is playing time with the emergence of Marcus Lattimore and dependability of Kenny Miles.
Earlier this year, Giles decided to transfer yet again, opting to leave Charlie Strong‘s Cardinals program.
According to Giles’ high school coach, the back has decided on USF as his third school in roughly nine months. Unfortunately for both Giles and the Bulls, that transfer, at least football-wise, will likely not come to fruition as noted by the Tampa Tribune. Seems as non-compete clause in the Big East conference will stop the dream of being a Bull, at least this year
A Big East Conference official has confirmed that there are no exceptions to the conference’s policy that states once a student-athlete in football or men’s and women’s basketball attends a member institution that student-athlete cannot transfer to another member institution, directly or indirectly, and be eligible to compete in that sport.
That appears to be a rather cut-and-dried stance, so Giles, a Tampa, Fla., product, may/will have no choice other than to move on to Plan B. Regardless of where he transfers, Giles will be forced to sit out the 2011 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules.
In regards to Brandon Golson, his ACT scored got denied by the NCAA as he was trying to play for the Louisville Cardinals. He will now attend Gray Miltary Academy. This is the latest bit of drama for Golson, if you recall he failed to qualify under NCAA standards and attended Fork Union last fall. He was then denied admission to USC before spring classes in January and then was going to be a Cardinal.
Someting tells me Golson (6-3, 235 lbs) will end up with the Gamecocks when it is all said and done as long as he can get his grades where they need to be. As for Giles, hope he finds a hope soon and finds happiness on the field. Both of these kids have talent, just need to get back on track with things.
