SEC East Race: Week 8

The SEC East race is through week 8 of the season, and it appears to be a three team race.  Many observers think it’s a two horse race between South Carolina and Georgia, but Florida will still have something to say about it.

The Gamecocks are the only team who control their own destiny.  They only need to win out, and they will head to Atlanta.  Georgia and Florida need help.  The Bulldogs are headed to Atlanta if they win out, and South Carolina loses once more.  Florida needs to win out and have South Carolina and Georgia each lose to a team in addition to them.

Despite needing help, Georgia might have the easiest road because of their schedule.  Here are the schedules and scenarios for the final 3 weeks.

South Carolina @ Tennessee @ Arkansas Florida
Georgia Florida Auburn Kentucky
Florida Georgia Vanderbilt @ South Carolina

SC wins all 3.

They win in every scenario.

SC 2-1.

Georgia must lose once for USC to win the East.

SC 1-2; win against Florida.

Georgia needs to lose two for USC to win the East

SC 1-2; win against Tennessee or Arkansas.

Florida must lose once, and Georgia must lose twice.

SC 0-3.

Gamecocks cannot win East.  Even in most favorable scenarios, Gamecocks could tie at 4-4 but would lose typos.

For this week: pull for Florida.  If the Gators and Gamecocks win, South Carolina wins the East by winning one of their last two games.
