The South Carolina versus Tennessee football game on Saturday just took on a new dimension as the Vols have decided to start true freshman Justin Worley.
This kid absolutely lit it up back in the high school days, shattering several South Carolina state records and was the recipient of the Gatorade award. As a senior, he threw for 5,315 yards and a state-record 64 touchdowns. Worley finished his high school career with 13,385 passing yards and 157 total touchdowns.
Vol’s coach Vince “I Wear Orange Pants” Dooley has made quite a gutsy decision but with Tyler Bray injured and the offense sputtering under Matt “I Want to be like Dad” Simms…well, safe to say this is the right call. I for one was hoping to see the so-so passing game of Simms against USC but this will do.
That being said, the SEC is not high school Mr. Worley and you are about to meet the best defensive line in America.
I hope this kid goes on to be a great UT quarterback but I do not want him to start a stellar career on Saturday. He has a tough Carolina secondary to deal with, not to mention the likes of Melvin Ingram and Jadeveon Clowney coming after hm. On a funny note, Clowney squared off against Worley in his last high school game with Worleys’ school coming out on top. I am hoping the two of them get to meet face to face several times on Saturday night yet this time Clowney gets the win.
This storyline should make for an interesting game to watch. It will be also be interesting to see if Worly is worthy of all the hype and can make the transition from high school to the SEC.
