The South Carolina football team will be without freshman cornerback Martay Mattox as he has decided to seek a transfer.
This is a loss for USC as he showed promise when he enrolled early at USC in January 2011. He then suffered an injury in preperation for the 2011 season. Also what hurt his chances this past season was a violation of team rules that lead to him being suspened for the opener against East Carolina.
Mattox did not contribute to the team in any statistical category but not having him is a loss for USC going forward for a secondary that could use depth.
Mattox is the second USC football player to announce a transfer within the past two days. Earlier this week, redshirt sophomore defensive back Corey Addison “tweeted” that he would be leaving Carolina to pursue more playing time elsewhere. Addison recorded three tackles this past season.
