Nebraska’s Center Still Questionable for Capital One Bowl

No word out of Big Red nation as of late concerning if they will be allowing senior center Mike Caputo to participate in the Capital One Bowl.

If you will recall, Caputo was arrested last weekend on suspicion of driving under the influence.

In a similar situation last season for the Cornhuskers, Baker Steinkuhler and Rickey Thenarse missed last season’s Holiday Bowl for similar offenses so there is somewhat of a precedent on how this could be handled.

The outcome of whether Caputo will play or not has to do a lot with Nebraska’s success against a stingy USC defensive front.  Not having him would force Nebraska to start little-used center Cole Pensick or move others around on the line to make up for the loss.  Either way it disrupts the offensive scheme as the strength of the Cornhuskers offense is in the run which depends heavily on line play.

Stay tuned for the outcome on this situation but not having Caputo gives a stronger edge to USC in the trenches.  Will Nebraska soften up to allow him to play all in the hopes of winning?  Tough decision for Coach Pelini.
