The South Carolina baseball team did its job in winning the series match-up with Clemson University. The Gamecocks won Game 1 by the score of 3-2 and won the Game 2 by the score of 9-6. USC did drop the Sunday game to Clemson due to a late ninth inning rally from the Tigers that ushered in a win for them by the score of 6-5.
Goes to show that you just can not win them all but in baseball, it is about winning the series and that is exactly what USC did.
For the series, CU’s Richie Shaffer was named the winner of the Bob Bradley Award as Clemson’s MVP, and Matthews earned the Tom Price Award as USC’s MVP.
South Carolina is now 9-1 on the year. The Gamecocks remain second in the Collegiate Baseball ranking and third in the Baseball America poll.
Takeaways….From this point forward, the Gamecocks need to improve on their defense as there has been some errors that a team like USC just is not suppose to make. With expectations high, the focus needs to be turned up a notch.
It was good to see USC get some pop from their bats as that also needs to get better going forward. USC’s pitching is progressing nicely.
Next up….USC will play host to UNC Asheville Wednesday night. The Gamecocks will play their final non-conference weekend series against Princeton beginning Friday night.
