Once again we find the Gamecocks with their backs against the wall in Omaha. This will be a first for USC, having to come back in the championship series. So with that…
Here are my Five Key’s to Victory!
#1 Keep the leadoff batter from getting on. USC only allowed the leadoff batter to reach base three times in the first game, but the Wildcats will play small ball to score runs.
#2 The Gamecocks need to get hits with runners in scoring position. USC left five on-base in the first game. Score some runs and give Roth some insurance.
#3 Pop outs will kill you in Omaha. Gamecocks had 11 fly outs on Sunday night. There have only been 10 home runs this CWS and only one by USC. No need to swing for the fences, the ball will never make it.
#4 Make the Wildcats use their bullpen. Arizona has relied on their starters to pitch complete games in the postseason and will continue to do so. James Farris (7-3) with a 4.18 in 16 games with 99.0 innings pitched gets the ball for the ‘Cats. Farris has not yet pitched in Omaha so USC needs to abuse him early.
#5 Stay relaxed, so far in the CWS the team that scores first is 11-3. The three come from behind wins are all by the Gamecocks.
Play smart today, and get to Tuesday’s rubber match.
