Former Gamecock Tre Kelly’s Journey Has Him in China

Former Gamecocks basketball player Tre Kelly has been lighting it up for the DongGuan New Century Leopards in China.

Tre Kelley is having a nice season thus far having played 13 games and averaging 25.8 points since he was signed in early January.

Earlier this month, Tre exploded for a career-high 53 points on 14-21 shooting from the field, 4-10 from behind the arc, 13-14 from the foul line and adding 6 assists. All of this in 32 minutes of work as DongGuan knocked off Shandong 129-125.  Tre dropping 53?  I think Dave Odom didn’t fully use this kid.

You may remember, Mr. Kelley started at point guard for three years at USC, he is No. 2 all time in games played (134), No. 3 in assists (510), No. 3 in 3-point FG attempted (503), No. 3 in minutes played (3956), No. 3 in 3 PT FG made (167), and No. 9 all-time in career points (1488).

After his career at Carolina ended, KK Cibona, a Croatian Club Team, signed Tre to a contract, after he failed to get drafted in the 2007 NBA Draft.  He bounced around from that point but seems to be doing some good in China, where he began play on Jan. 13, 2010.

If he keeps it up he could garner interest from the NBA again and try his hand at it or just keep getting paid to wow the Chinese.
