The Gamecocks made easy work of Radford, won 85-56.
The Gamecocks (2-1) took a 30-point lead at halftime as every player on the team but one scored at least two points. What was impressive in the win and thus far this season is the “team approach” to scoring. Seems the ball is being spread around pretty well which is good to see from our standpoint. Don’t get me wrong as we like it when a player averages 20+ a game but it is also nice to see a team effort in winning as The Gamecocks got at least four points from every player on the roster. Also it is great to see the rebounding performances of late as they held their own versus the Spartans and out-rebounded Radford 51-34. And what about Spinella, after scoring just 39 points and averaging 1.3 per game all of last season, he’s already amassed 29 points and is averaging almost 10 points per game this year.
Leading Scorers: Sophomore guard Stephen Spinella scored 15 points to lead the team. Freshman Brian Richardson had 11, while Lakeem Jackson and Bruce Ellington each scored 10.
Negatives, if any: Nothing really to vent about. Just don’t want to see them so reliant on the 3 ball. They shot 31 of them (made 11).
Next game – South Carolina hosts USC Upstate Tuesday, Nov. 23 at Colonial Life Arena. That match is scheduled to tipoff at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Carolinas.
