The Gamecocks of South Carolina traveled to Alabama looking for a soul to steal or at least a win against the Crimson Tide. That goal was short lived really from the moment they tipped off due to poor shooting, poor rebounding and twenty turnovers. The tri-fecta of bad play and a loss.
Let’s breakdown the game a bit further…
We laid out three keys in our preview that USC did not do. We give them a F for a grade on all accounts. As they did not get the offense going, did not win the rebounding war, the ‘Cocks inside play did not show and 20 turnovers. All that is bad news.
Going one step further in providing reason, the Crimson Tide shot 43% while the Gamecocks sot 28%. Alabama was too much on the glass, with 30 defensive rebounds to only 22 from South Carolina. Cooke led the South Carolina squad in scoring with 11 and the guard combo of Ellington/Galloway put in 10 points each.
Other notes:
- The bench recorded more points (28) than the starters (19).
- USC set season lows for total points, field goal percentage, assists, and field goals made.
- The Gamecocks set a season high for turnovers.
- The Gamecocks have recorded more blocks than their opponents for the past 6 games.
The Gamecocks move to 10-5 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. Their next game is against the Florida Gators on Saturday the 15th at 1:30pm in their house.
Last season, the Gamecocks went 1-1 against the Gators. In four years, South Carolina has a record of 2-6 against Florida, including 0-4 at O’Connell Center.
