The South Carolina Gamecocks men’s basketball program landed their third commitment in the class of 2011 as junior college guard Brenton Williams gave his pledge to Coach Darrin Horn. Williams visited USC over the weekend and the commitment to be a Gamecock was made.
Williams spent one year at Santa Fe Junior College in Gainesville, Florida and will have three years of eligibility to close out his collegiate career as a Gamecock.
Williams was recently selected as an All Mid-Florida Basketball team member for the 2010-2011 season, in which, he averaged 11.8 points, 1.7 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game.
Originally from Osceola High School in Kissimmee, Fl. Williams is athletic scoring guard that shoots the ball extremely well.
His senior year of high school, Williams averaged 25.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.5 steals while shooting 55% from the field, 40% from 3pt, and 90% from the free throw line.
Described as a combo guard, what he brings to USC is the ability to play point guard given the recent Bruce Ellington situation and play shooting guard when needed to add depth. Overall, Williams feels the void at guard and is a very good pick-up on the surface for Coach Horn’s style of play. Given his one year of experience of collegiate basketball, he will be expected to play right away and provide a spark in scoring that South Carolina needs.
Williams joins an incoming class for the 2011-12 season that includes Anthony Gill at power forward and Damien Leonard at shooting guard.
Williams choose the Gamecocks over offers and interest from the University of Central Florida, Florida A&M, Bethune-Cookman and Louisiana Tech.
