Here is some of my rambles related to a great day of watching good basketball.
Game1: MSU v UT
I know I am getting this posted a bit late as right now the Vols are leading the Spartans at half 41-39.
MSU has to depend on their post play in the second half or it could be goodnight for them. We shall see as I will avoid commenting too much on this game as it is well underway…plus I am watching it.
Going to say…I am pulling for UT and think they will win. Depends on their ability to get some rebounds and their open looks fall. Chism and his head band need to come to play today as MSU is tough in the blocks. Thinking MSU finds a way to win late.
Game 2: Duke v Baylor
I expect a close game and a well-played matchup, the Blue Devils will have to work to contain the Baylor Guards and get rebounds.
LaceDarius Dunn and Tweety Carter can shoot it with the best of them but it will come down to really if Duke’s “3 headed monster” finally steps up big in a NCAA game. And they have to as Kyle Singler can not do it alone this game nor can just one of the 3. Jon Scheyer must break out of his NCAA funk and play his best game. If he can do that the team will respond and you will see what the Singler, Smith and Scheyer machine at work is all about. I know Brian Zoubek, Lance Thomas and the Plumlee brothers have played great thus far and expectations are just as high in this game. They must get rebounds for second chance points and avoid dumb fouls.
Baylor is good kids. I think it will take near perfect play from Duke to win or you may see a game like they had against the Hoyas. Another words they got mopped up on the court and Baylor has the ability to do the same. On the Baylor side, besides the Bears guards, watch Ekpe Udoh as if he gets going…it is hard to contain him.
I am pulling for Duke in this game and for them to win it is – Duke’s perimeter play v the Baylor 2-3 zone. Duke has to have success against the zone or it will be ugly.
Star Watch: Scheyer, he needs to reach his average of 18pts a game while dishing out some assists and getting some easy rebounds. I think this game rests on his play as Baylor will try to get Zoubek in foul troblue and limit Singler.
This game will continue the trend of great NCAA games this tourney and you will see a tough, hard fought game. I think Duke will show balance and fight off the Baylor threat to win this game by 7 due to second half adjustments against the Baylor Zone.
