Led by SEC leading scorer Devan Downey, the South Carolina Gamecocks defeated No. 1 ranked Kentucky by a score of 68-62 Tuesday night.
Downey put 30 points, as Sam Muldrow added 11 boards and five blocks to help lead the USC to their first victory over a No. 1 ranked team.
Gamecock Fans around the country got a moment to enjoy basketball success. Let’s admit it was due after the heartbreaker to Florida and injuries haunting the team. This team may not go to the NCAA tourney or even the NIT but they beat the number one team. Relish in it.
This win is a feather in the cap for Coach Horn and one that will build this program.
South Carolina (12-8, 3-3) improves to .500 in the SEC on the season, while Kentucky (19-1, 4-1) picks up their first loss of the year.
