An Indiana University Business Professor, named ironically Ryan Brewer, has completed a two year study wherein he looked at Division 1 public football programs as if they were Wall Street Corporations. He looked at their finances and values and determined their price if they were companies for sale.
South Carolina’s football program was valued at $316.8 million dollars. That is good enough for #11 in the country. Texas was number one at $848.3 million. Other SEC teams that are ranked ahead of the Gamecocks are: 2) Georgia, $483.6, 4) Florida $421.8, 5) LSU $397.4, 7) Alabama $374.3, 8) Auburn $359.4 and 10) Tennessee $321.3.
Our country cousins in Pickens were valued at 131 million. Now we’ve all always felt that Clemson football was relatively worthless in comparison to South Carolina. Now we have the objective numbers to back it up.
But in all seriousness, I wonder what this list would have looked like before Eric Hyman. Some fans may have some disagreements with his administration in certain areas, but you’d be hard pressed to deny that he has put the program (and the entire department) on sound financial footing. That’s the kind of program building that can last for decades.
