The South Carolina Gamecocks held their second day of practice after a dealing with a missing quaterback issue in the first practice. Good thing about this practice as it seemed the Gamecocks got down to business.
Let’s provide a quick sampling of some of the things that occured:
–Defensive Back Victor Hampton missed his second straight practice due to an academic issue. Hope this guy gets it straight as USC needs him in the secondary.
–Kaleb Broome is looking more and more like he will be playing a inside position on the offensive line as he has gotten a lot of reps to start spring ball at the right guard spot.
–Ace Sanders, Nick Jones and Bryce Sherman are getting lots of looks as the return specialists on special teams.
–Speaking of special teams, Joey Scibner-Howard is giving a nice run to be the punter as his kicks are standing out two practices in.
–DJ Swearinger is having a great start in the secondary as he is playing the opposing wide outs tight and has a couple of picks to show for it.
–Kenny Miles and Eric Baker are getting quite a number of reps. One of these two must emerge as the solid backup to Marcus Lattimore.
–Good to see Eric Baker doing good, if you recall we were high on Baker. Heck, we called him a “hidden gem” back in 2008. LOHD still believes he can be a special player at USC so keep giving him a chance as he could prove to be the real deal behind Lattimore.
–Rodney Paulk, Ryan Broadhead, Matt O’Brien, Mike Triglia, Marty Markett and Qua Gilchrist were in yellow jerseys.
–Dalton Wilson did not practice due to injury and was not present.
–Justice Cunningham and Quin Smith each practiced with club casts on their right hands.
–Cody Gibson and Rokevious Watkins are battling for the right tackle spot.
–While Stephen Garcia is away, Connor Shaw got more reps under center. More the better for him.
