Today there are 92 days until kickoff.
92 was the most plays run against South Carolina in a game. It is a staggeringly large number. The defense only allowed 16 points in that game, which isn’t a bad ratio given 92 chances. The Gamecocks didn’t have many games like that, which was a part of how they were able to win 11 games. Who ran that many plays? Answer below the jump.
It was Auburn and Gus Malzahn’s offense. His Auburn offense wanted to run many plays quickly. They did. They were also helped out because the Gamecocks were unable to get off the field. The Tigers converted 50% of their third downs and held the ball for over 35 minutes. The silver lining that day was Connor Shaw became the starter the next week and hasn’t looked back.
