Gamecocks Football: Vic Hampton To The Rescue

The South Carolina Gamecocks will get a much needed boost in their secondary this weekend when they square off with the Vanderbilt Commodores as they will welcome back Victor Hampton.  The freshman cornerback is expected to make his debut Saturday against Vanderbilt.

Hampton, who redshirted last season, was suspended three games for breaking “unspecified rules” during the offseason.

I stop short in saying Hampton is the answer for the lackluster secondary play but having him back is a plus.  He is quick and plays aggressive, both are things USC is in need of heading into stronger SEC play.  I do think he will help to improve the play of the secondary as you are likely to see more man coverage with him out there, which suits his style and other members of the secondary.  Also having him, helps with depth.

Hampton is young and talented and having him back will push the others around him.  Expect a better USC showing in the secondary versus Vandy.
