Gamecocks Football: Wednesday Observations

In today’s Gamecock sports world not a lot is going on as the football team prepares for the Vols on Saturday, men’s basketball is getting ready for the new season and the women’s soccer team has a big game on Friday.

There were a few notes from Spurrier’s SEC teleconference that we want to share with you just to keep you up to speed:

  • Lattimore is good to go and will play versus UT.  Sorry Vols fans.
  • Spurrier stated today the football team has only produced one turnover in the last three games.  They were -4 v. UK and -1 versus Vandy.  He agrees with me that this must improve going forward.
  • Spurrier noted that this season there has been improved special teams coverage but still lacking the “big play.”  I swear he must have listened to our podcast as we too agree that we need to get more out of our return guys.
  • Spurrier mentioned the obvious also that USC is really good at home as they have won 12 out of 13 games but just recently got a SEC road victory.  The first since ’08.  This too must improve.
  • Did like the fact that he gave praise to Garcia, Marcus and Alshon.  He said Garcia is playing his best football since he arrived on campus at USC.  He also noted that Marcus and Alshon are two of the best players he has coached.
  • Oh and yes that is Matt Simms in the pic, just hanging out as a QB does I guess…

Two Basketball notes to pass along….

  • Malik Cooke has a slight sprained ankle yet no worry.
  • Ramon Galloway got his cast off his leg recently but now is in a walking boot.

I do want to share a few stories with you that are recommended reading tonight –
