Gamecocks Top 20 for ’12: No. 18

NOTE: This South Carolina Gamecocks blog is counting down the Top 20 projected players on South Carolina’s 2012 team. Players are measured on overall importance and expected productivity during the upcoming season.

The basics:
Anyone that knows Gamecocks football, will tell you the play of the secondary in 2012 is crucial for success. Especially when talking about the depth and the last line of defense, the safeties. One player that should have a great year and if he does, it will translate to Gamecock glory, is Brison Williams.  He is sophomore and enters the 2012 season as the starting strong safety.

Rewind: Had 11 tackles in last season as a freshman after a rocky start that saw him miss the first four games due to a broken arm. Prior to the 2011 season, he attended Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy where he was a four-star prospect and the nation’s sixth-best prep school player by Rivals.com

Forecast:
LOHD feels he is going to be a break-out player in 2012. If our crystal ball is right, then this stepped up play will strengthen the defense tremendously. Williams has good speed, good hands and can tackle with the best of them.

Others in Top 20
No. 20 – Shaq Roland
No. 19 – A.J. Cann
