Don’t be surprised when Damiere Byrd makes a big play on Saturday against the Auburn Tigers.
Byrd is a welcomed addition to the the Gamecocks ball catchers on offense. Byrd had been out as he was serving a four-game suspension for his involvement with the Delaware-based SAM Foundation. That is water under the bridge now. Let’s welcome Mr. Byrd as USC could use his talent and speed.
The thing with Byrd is he can create space between him and the defender. This was seen during the four Gamecocks’ scrimmages during fall practice, Byrd led the team with 232 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Byrd should be make a impact on the USC passing arsenal. The Gamecocks are averaging just 178 yards per game through the air, and quarterback Stephen Garcia has thrown seven interceptions to just three touchdowns. Having Byrd in place with the emergence of Nick Jones and others should mean good things for USC in the future games.
