This year I will be voting in the Mumme Poll again. For those of you who are unfamiliar the Mumme Poll is an ongoing attempt to to find a viable method to rank college football teams absent the bias and conflicts of interest inherent in the current ranking systems. The poll was created by the guys at Get The Picture and Third Saturday in Blogtober.
The poll works by having each voter identify the top ten teams in no particular order. For tie breaking purposes a number one team is designated. Here is this week’s ballot with explanations.
LSU (1)
They beat Alabama on the road. Unless they lose, they are staying number 1 the rest of the season.
Alabama
Tough overtime loss at home to LSU. They’re still one of the top 10 in the country.
Oklahoma State
They survived against Kansas State and put up gaudy numbers in the process.
Stanford
They beat up on a bad Oregon State team. Their end of the season game with Oregon looms large.
Oregon
The Ducks had a nice win on the road at Washington.
Boise State
They beat UNLV by a lot fewer points than most people thought.
Arkansas
They didn’t play their best game of the season and still found a way to beat South Carolina by double digits.
Oklahoma
They beat Texas A&M pretty handily.
Penn State
They are idle, but they have quietly survived their way to an 8-1 record with their only loss being to Alabama.
Georgia
After a disasterous 0-2 start to the season, the Bulldogs are rolling.
Here’s the poll itself.
