South Carolina Defeats The Citadel: Quick Postgame Impressions

The South Carolina Gamecocks defeated The Citadel by the score of 41-20.  Once again, not the sexy win that we all want to see against a SoCon foe but it is a win.

Here are some quick thoughts:

—USC quarterback Connor Shaw finished the game completing 16-of-18 passes for 217 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.
—Freshman running back Brandon Wilds broke the 100-yard mark for the third time this season gaining 109 yards on the ground with two scores.  He had 164 total yards.
—South Carolina finished the game with 473 total yards, including 256 rushing and 217 yards through the air.
—Citadel had 249 total yards and out of that just eight of those was via the pass.
—Alshon Jeffery had five catches for 81 yards and 1 TD.
—USC linebacker Rodney Paulk had 12 tackles and one forced fumble.
—USC had zero sacks.
—USC was 3-for-3 on 4th down conversions.
—USC will try to win 10 games in a season for just the second time ever. The Gamecocks on Saturday reached the nine-win mark for just the fourth time in school history.
—The victory improved South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier to 44-0 against opponents from outside the BCS automatic qualifying conferences.

Here are the Final Stats

I never want to play a triple-option team by choice again.  Please stop scheduling them as they give the USC defense a handful.

Now, time to think about beating Clemson again.
