The SEC released the football schedules and the assumption that the South Carolina Gamecocks will have a tough road in 2012, is now a fact.
Let’s take a look at the schedule and give you the “way too early” predictions and thoughts on the games……
We present to you the 2012 football schedule:
August 30 – at Vanderbilt
September 8 –
September 15 – ALABAMA-BIRMINGHAM
September 22 – MISSOURI
September 29 – at Kentucky
October 6 – GEORGIA
October 13 – at LSU
October 20 – at Florida
October 27 – TENNESSEE
November 3 –
November 10 – ARKANSAS
November 17 – WOFFORD
November 24 – at Clemson
*The East Carolina game has yet to be determined between the two schools so that is why you only see eleven games noted above.
So what is our reaction? It sorta sucks to have to play Arkansas and LSU not to mention six games against SEC foes. In saying that and before you lash out, look at Georgia’s schedule or Florida’s. Now you see that the road to SEC East glory will be tougher in 2012?
Here are snap judgements for each week with a prediciton:
– Vandy. Opening the season, is a good thing for USC from a expsoure standpoint but Vandy will not be a walk in the park as it never is. Win.
– Like to see the ECU game here. Win.
– UAB. Yeah that is a win.
– Missouri. If you read our thoughts on this team from the other day, you know the key is to stop the run. Having them at home is a plus here as we should help get them use to SEC road games. Likely win.
– Kentucky. Since it is the football team, it is a win. Now basketball is a different story and surely a UK fan will say the same.
– Georgia. Having them in the middle of the year, well that sucks and is a big change. I am going to say likely win here based off 2011 result.
– LSU. At LSU….god help us. Loss.
– Florida. I think we can get them in 2012 as they are still searching for a identity under their new coaches. Likely Win. Playing in the Swamp concerns me.
– UT. Having them at home is a good thing as this team continues to improve. Going with a likely win here due to home field advantage.
– Bye.
– Arkansas. Going with a toss-up here. If the defense comes to play, we have a chance but mark it down as a likely loss.
– Wofford. Quit scheduling these guys as the triple-option is no fun for our defense. However, it is a win.
– Clemson. Hold them 4’s up. Win.
So as you can see the Gamecocks could win 11 games in 2012 as far as a best case is concerned or the worst case is eight wins in our thoughts for 2012. Not too shabby.
The key and measuring stick will be beating UGa in the middle of the season. If USC wants to win the SEC East, they must beat the usual suspects in UGa and UF.
The way too early prediction is another 10-2 season with losses to LSU and Arkansas. Yes, USC wins the SEC East. Hello SEC title game…..right?
