Spurrier’s Contract Extended Through 2015

Coach Steve Spurrier received a two-year contract extension Tuesday, extending his deal as the Head Ball Coach for South Carolina through the 2015 season.

Spurrier, who received a $1 million raise but no extension following last season, makes an average of $2.86 million annually. Under the terms of that deal, he is set to get $2.55 million this year, $2.87 million in 2012 and $2.95 million in 2013. He was also in line to receive a one-time payment of $1 million at the end of the 2011 season – pushing his salary to $3.55 million.

This two-year extension will keep him in Columbia through the end of the 2015 season, at least on paper.

Coach Spurrier is 54-35 in seven seasons, 11 wins short of the career coaching record at USC.  Safe to say, he will fulfill his goal of being the winningest USC coach ever by the time he leaves Columbia.

This is well-deserved for the Coach and puts to rest the doubts concerning how long Spurrier will be around.
