Stephen Garcia dismissed from football team

Stephen Garcia’s long, bumpy road at South Carolina has come to an end.  The University announced on Tuesday that Garcia was dismissed from the team.  There were several conditions he had to meet in order to remain a member of the team.  He apparently did not abide by those requirements.  Travis Haney, the former Post and Courier reporter, tweeted that Garcia failed an alcohol test last week.

Garcia will no doubt be remembered for his off the field issues and multiple suspensions.  Unfortunately he will probably not be remembered as the quarterback who engineered last season’s upset of top ranked Alabama.  He may not be remembered as the first QB in USC history to lead the Gamecocks to an SEC East title.  Garcia finishes his career third in total passing yards and in the Top Ten in a host of other offensive categories.

Many in Columbia hoped he would succeed and cheered his accomplishments when he did.  Here’s hoping he succeeds at whatever he chooses to do with his li going forward.
