Breaking it Down…Check out Flounder’s write ups Friday’s and Saturday’s games.
Sunday was a hot and windy day in the capitol city. The wind was blowing out and both teams took advantage. Neither starting pitcher made it 3 innings, and the teams combined to use 14 pitchers.
Stars of the Series…Jackie Bradley, Jr., went 5 of 14 with a 3B, 2 home runs, a stolen base and 7 runs batted in…Christian Walker went 5 for 10 with a double, a home run and 2 RBIs…Brady Thomas went 4 for 9 with 6 RBIs and two home runs, including the winner on Friday night…Kyle Enders went 5 of 8 with a double, home run and 5 RBIs.
What to take from the Weekend…It’s hard to really extrapolate too much from a weekend in which our pitching had its only real off weekend of the season. Given their performance the rest of the season, I’m not worrying about our pitching staff just yet. On the flip side its nice to see the offense explode the way it did, and fans should feel good about this team being able to go out of its comfort zone to get another series win.
This and that…Friday night’s extra inning win was the Gamecocks’ third extra inning game of the season; they have won all three.
