Gamecocks Baseball: 2011 MLB Draft Roundup

The South Carolina Gamecocks baseball program and its’ players had a impact on the Major League Baseball Draft as quite a number of current players and signees were selected.  Here is a roundup of the 21 Gamecocks that got their name called –

Current Players
—Outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. was selected No. 40 overall, and the seventh player in the supplemental first round, by the Boston Red Sox.
—Reliever Matt Price was selected as the second pick of the sixth round, No. 184 overall, by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
—In round number eight, right-handed pitcher Evan Beal was just selected as the No. 246 pick overall in the draft by the Kansas City Royals.
—In the 11th round, senior Scott Wingo was selected by the LA Dodgers with the No. 344 pick overall.
—Shortstop Peter Mooney was selected with the No. 649 pick by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 21st round.
—Reliever John Taylor was selected in the 22nd round by the Seattle Mariners with the No. 633 pick overall.
—Outfielder Adam Matthews was selected in the 23rd round by the Baltimore Orioles with the No. 695 pick overall.
—Reliever Bryan Harper was selected by the Washington Nationals, he was selected in the 30th round with the 904th pick overall.
—Pitcher Michael Roth was selected in the 31st round as the number 938 selection overall by the Cleveland Indians.
—Pitcher Steven Neff got his named called in the 41st round as the No. 1257 overall pick by the San Francisco Giants.
—Pitcher Tyler Webb got his name called in the 48th round as the No. 1465 overall selection by the Cincinnati Reds.
— Third baseman Adrian Morales got his name called in the 49th round as the No. 1476 selection by the Kansas City Royals.

Gamecocks Signees
—South Carolina signee Taylor Guerrieri (Columbia/Spring Valley) was the first player with Gamecock ties selected, as the right-handed pitcher was taken by the Tampa Bay Rays with 24th pick in the first round.
—Class of 2011 commitment Brian Goodwin was selected as the No. 34 overall pick by the Washington Nationals.
—Outfielder Tanner English was selected with the No. 420 pick overall by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 13th round of the MLB Draft.  He too was a class of 2011 signee.
—Left-handed pitcher Andrew Faulkner, a 2011 class signee, was selected No. 444 overall by the Texas Rangers and was taken in the 14th round.
—Right-handed pitcher Joel Seddon was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 20th round with the No. 619 pick overall. He is a 2011 signee.
—Class of 2011 signee, shortstop TJ Costen was selected in the 22nd round by the Texas Rangers with the No. 684 pick overall.
—Pitcher Joseph Pankake who was a signee was selected in the 42nd round as the No. 1284 selection overall by the Texas Rangers. 
—Football player and outfielder Shon Carson of Lake City High School was the No. 1345 selection overall.  He went in the 44th round by Cincinnati Reds.  He also is a USC football signee.
—Another USC football signee Ahmad Christian was selected in the 46th round as the No. 1391 selection by the Milwaukee Brewers.  He is a shortstop.
