The South Carolina Gamecocks baseball team has been ranked 14th in the Collegiate Baseball Preseason Top 40 poll to start the season. The Gamecocks are the defending National Champions and will look to get back to Omaha in 2011 to defend the crown.
I feel this is really low for the team that has the current title but just like last year, the Gamecocks will have to earn the respect by winning on the diamond.

Several other SEC teams are in the poll – #2 Florida, # 5 Vanderbilt, #15 LSU, #25 Auburn, and #32 Arkansas.
Also there are other South Carolina programs in the poll – Clemson is #4, Coastal Carolina is #24 and C of C is 35th.
The Gamecocks will have their hands full in 2011 but the team is loaded with talent and ready to make a run to repeat as champs.
Another note – ESPN is working to shine the spotlight on college baseball more in 2011 and will be showcasing some games on Thursday nights. USC will kick it off April 7th against Tennessee.
