Gamecocks Earn Lucky #13 with Win vs. Auburn

The USC Gamecocks (19-4, 5-0) have won 13 games in a row after scattering 11 hits without giving up a walk as the Auburn Tigers (16-7, 3-2) were shut out at home for the first time since 2005.

South Carolina needed just a pair of runs scoring one in the eighth and another in the ninth to defeat Auburn 2-0 at Plainsman Park.

Game 2 was a pitchers’ duel as USC junior right-hander Sam Dyson and Auburn junior left-hander Cole Nelson both went back and forth shutting the door on any opposing team’s scoring threats until the eighth.  That is win the Gamecocks took charge.

Scott Wingo got the game-winning RBI in the eighth and Kyle Enders, who added an RBI single in the ninth, were all the gamecocks needed to secure the win.  SC reliever Matt Price through darts and was lights out in the 8th and 9th as he helped to make Dyson’s pitching show end on a good note.

South Carolina has now won 11 straight series over Auburn dating back to the 1998 season.

The same two teams will meet again on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. EST. Freshman Tyler Webb will get the ball for the Gamecocks while the Tigers will ask right-hander Grant Dayton to avoid the sweep.
