The USC Gamecocks ended up losing Game 2 to the Kentucky Wildcats by the score of 2-1 in a chilly night in Lexington. The SC loss makes the series tied at one game a piece with the “rubber match” on Sunday at 1pm.
The cold night seemed to have a effect on the Gamecocks bats as they were “ice cold” in this game. The Gamecocks could not string together enough hits nor capitalize off opportunities. USC starting pitcher Sam Dyson did his job holding UK to just 2 runs in eight innings of pitching but lack of offense lead to the loss.
Neither team scored until the fifth inning. In that inning, Carolina’s Evan Marzilli led off the inning with his second homer of the season, driving a 1-1 pitch over the wall to make it 1-0. The lead did not last long as UK’s Braden Kapteyn stroked a two-run double to the gap in left-center that scored 2 runs. That was all that was needed from UK as the Gamecocks could not mound a comeback on Saturday like on Friday night.
The loss moves USC to 36-10 and 17-6 SEC. Gamecocks need to come out strong in Game 3 and get the series win.
