South Carolina starting pitcher Sam Dyson pitched a six-hit complete game shutout as the Gamecocks cruised to a 5-0 victory over Arkansas on Saturday to clinch a three-game SEC baseball series at Baum Stadium for the first time in school history.
Dyson limited the Razorbacks to just six hits and walked only two on the afternoon. He struck out eight batters and improved to 5-4 on the season and the best way to describe his performance – clutch.
The Gamecocks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a Bobby Haney RBI single and added two more in the fourth on Thomas’ seventh homer of the season, a two-run shot to right-center field. In the 8th, USC got two more with a RBI double by Bradley, Jr then a RBI single from Walker.
The two teams will meet in the series finale today at 2:05 pm and the Gamecocks will go after the sweep.
This win improved the Gamecocks to 40-11 overall and 19-7 in the SEC. The Gamecocks remain tied with the Florida Gators for the top spot in the Southeastern Conference as UF is taking care of the life-less Georgia Bulldogs.
As said before on this blog, the Gamecocks control their own destiny for the league title since they will have a home series with the Gators next weekend. Even with a Sunday loss to the Razorbacks (hope for the opposite, as I pray for the sweep and a UGa win) the Gamecocks will be able to win the Southeastern Conference regular season championship with a series win over the Gators next weekend.
