The path to a return trip and a proper defense of the 2010 National Championship is now known for the South Carolina Gamecocks as the Columbia Regional has been determined, as has their potential Super Regional opponent. The Gamecocks are also the number four national seed.
The number one seeded USC Gamecocks (45-14) will play fourth-seeded Georgia Southern (36-24) on Friday, while second-seeded Stetson (41-18) of the Atlantic Sun will play third-seeded N.C. State (34-25) of the ACC.
The Columbia Regional is paired with the Clemson Regional for the Super Regional match-up. The Clemson Regional has the host Clemson Tigers as the No. 1 seed, Connecticut as the No. 2 seed, Coastal Carolina as the No. 3 seed, and Sacred Heart as the final team in their bracket.
For USC, it is about winning five games. Three this weekend then two against the Clemson Regional winner. Win five and it’s Omaha time again. But as Coach Tanner will tell you, it is about taking it one game at a time.
USC has a tough regional and it will not be easy as the Gamecocks will have to bring solid pitching and hitting to the ballpark each day to win on their home turf.

This will be Carolina’s 27th overall appearance in the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament. South Carolina is the defending national champion after winning the CWS in 2010. South Carolina has reached nine College World Series as well as eight NCAA Super Regionals. South Carolina’s 12 consecutive trips to the NCAA Baseball Tournament (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011) is the longest current streak of the 12 SEC schools.
This marks the 13th time in school history that the Gamecocks will host an NCAA Regional in baseball. Since the move to the Regional-Super Regional format, Carolina has hosted an NCAA Regional seven times (2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2011).
