With all of the excitement surrounding the start of fall practice, Jackie Bradley, Jr., and Team USA have fallen under the radar. The National Collegiate team has been in Japan playing in the FISU World University Baseball Championship. 2010 is the 5th time the Championship has been held. The United States has won 3 straight gold medals after winning a silver in 2002.
The tournament features 8 countries who play in two pools of 4. The teams play each team in their pool to determine seeding. The United States beat Sri Lanka (15-0), Chinese Tiapei (8-7 (11)) and Canada (8-1) to win their pool. Tournament play began on Tuesday of this week. In the first round the American team beat China 11-0 and then beat Japan 4-2 to advance to the championship game. The Collegiate team will take on Cuba for the championship Saturday morning at 5 am Eastern time.
Jackie Bradley, Jr has continued his hot hitting throughout his tenure on the national team. He is batting .339 with a home run and 11 batted in. He has stolen two bases in as many attempts and has played error free baseball in the outfield.
