South Carolina vs. Clemson Rivalry: Gamecocks Dominate in 2011

The South Carolina Gamecocks dominated the Clemson Tigers in head-to-head match-ups for 2011.  As the chart below indicates, the Gamecocks sports programs took care of business against their rival in 2011 winning 9 out of 13 contests.

This is on top of the Gamecocks winning 11 out of 15 contests against Clemson in 2010.

So in the last two years, the Gamecocks have beaten the Clemson Tigers in head-to-head contests 20 out of 28 times.  That my friends is what you would call domination.

Here is the 2011 breakdown:

SPORT DATE WINNER SCORE
W Basketball 11/17/2011 USC 65-48
W Soccer 9/9/2011 USC 2-0
W Swimming & Diving 10/29/2011 USC 191-108
W Tennis 2/27/2011 Clemson 4-3
Volleyball 9/9/2011 Clemson 3-0
M Basketball 12/4/2011 USC 58-55
M Soccer 9/2/2011 Clemson 2-0
M Swimming & Diving 10/29/2011 USC 162-137
M Tennis 3/23/2011 USC 5-2
Baseball 3/4/2011 USC 6-3
Baseball 3/6/2011 Clemson 10-5
Baseball 3/8/2011 USC 5-4
Football 11/26/2011 USC 34-13

Some notes to go along with the above, which is showing just sports that the two face head-to-head:

  • USC does not sponsor Women’s Rowing.
  • Clemson does not sponsor Women’s Equestrian, Women’s Golf, Women’s Lacrosse, or Softball.
  • Women’s Cross Country and Women’s Track and Field teams do not compete head-to-head.
  • USC does not sponsor Men’s Cross Country.
  • Men’s Golf and Men’s Track & Field teams do not compete head-to-head.

So for those keeping count of the head-to-head match-ups, the Gamecocks BEAT the Tigers 9-4 in 2011.  (11-4 in 2010)

If knowing that is not enough, think about the fact that the USC football team has won three straight games versus Clemson and the USC men’s hoops squad has won two in a row versus Clemson.  Not to mention, the Gamecocks baseball team has won back-to-back national championships, which did involve beating Clemson five times in doing so.

So the next time a Clemson fan or one of the coaches brings up the subject of dominating the rivarly, just mention 20 out of 28 in the last two years.
